Death, Burial and Mourning

Description:
Once someone dies, the body was dressed in that person's best clothing, their hair was braided, they were placed with their prized possessions, and tobacco in their hands. When they bury the body, it is on the East - West axis. These possessions that were placed with the body, allows the body to be prepared for his/her four day journey to the Land of the Souls. The tribal members would create a small house to place over the burial site, and a window is created in order for the soul to leave. At the bottom of the window, they would place a shelf where food could be given to feed to soul on his/her journey.
